In addition to the internet stream which is currently running, we expect to return with an over the air signal later in 2024.  Below is some important information to help the general public better understand the legal aspect of unlicensed AM broadcasting in the United States

A link to the Cornell Law Library that specifies the radiated power and allowable combined antenna and ground length as set forth by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for legal, unlicensed AM broadcasting.

KFMD operates with a Class B device. It is classified as an Intentional Radiator.  Consumer electronics such as our transmitter are very low-powered and subject to less demanding use compared to licensed broadcasters.  Class B devices have less stringent requirements governing internal protection and also EMI tolerance.  Residential devices that Class B covers are designed to have lower power levels. This insures they won’t cause disruptions to the owner or their neighbors.  Information regarding the transmitter that will be used by KFMD Radio will be provided after the unit has been installed.  This station's transmittter could be classified as a very expensive AM version of Mr. Microphone.  See the link below.

There are thousands of these Part 15 Radio Stations operating in some form all over the United States.  Some are commercial broadcasters while others are operated as professional non profit entities or by hobbyists and other radio broadcast enthusiasts.  The link below will take you to a website listing dozens of these Part 15 stations around the country.
